After more than 1,500 days of work and records of up to 900 people working on the project in a single day, the vessel was officially delivered and is ready to accompany the Prysmian Group on its way as facilitator of the energy transition towards a cleaner and smarter world. In the manufacture of Leonardo Da Vinci 9,000 tons of steel were used and more than 600 kilometers of Prysmian power cable were needed to configure the ship's electrical system, which can now boast unique technical characteristics and achieve unprecedented performance, consolidating the Leadership of the Group and driving the capacity of the Prysmian Group's submarine cable operations.

Leonardo da Vinci joins a state-of-the-art fleet made up of three vessels: Giulio Verne, Cable Enterprise and Ulisse, which are already in functioning. The new cable laying boat has unrivaled features like two 7,000 and 10,000 ton turntables that deliver the largest carousel capacity on the market and ensure overall project efficiency. The boat is designed and equipped to carry out today's deepest power cable installations (up to 3,000 meters), thanks to new generation synthetic armor cable technology that is 30% lighter than steel.

The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art DP3 maritime navigation and positioning systems, can reach a maximum speed of more than 16 knots and is also equipped with two independent laying lines to increase operational flexibility and a bollard pull of more than 200 tons. , providing the ability to perform complex installation operations that support a variety of burial tools.

 

The Leonardo da Vinci is powered by the most efficient and environmentally friendly engines on the market: 6 Wärtsilä hybrid propulsion engines, of which four can produce ≈4,500 KW each, while the other two ≈1,440 KW each. In addition, the Prysmian Group installed a class approved Wärtsilä NOx reducing system that reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by 85%, making the Leonardo da Vinci comply with the latest IMO Tier III standard. Leonardo da Vinci runs on marine diesel fuel with a sulfur content less than 0.1%, and is designed with an energy regeneration system integrated into the cable laying equipment that recovers energy and then sends it back to the grid. electric boat.
